Plans in the Works for a Mount Fuji Ultra-Marathon “Ultra Trail Mount Fuji”

UPDATE:
The entry form in Japanese is up and running.
There is a blue button with a pencil mark on it near the top of the article. That’s where you click to get to the application.
When I clicked, there was a message saying that it was busy and to try a little later so I haven’t seen the application yet. There is a countdown on that page for the line. When I see the entry form, I’ll be able to comment on it a little more.
It will be done first come first serve by when PAYMENT is received so the sooner you pay the better. Payment options are as follows:
Now, for those who want to register for the race in English, application forms are set to be ready around February 14th. They recently posted a simple homepage with some information about the race, and a contact name and number for English language inquiries.

UPDATE 2: OK, I got to where I would see the entry form and the first thing you need to do is make a runnet.jp membership. I don’t know how much it will help, but I was able to use google translate to see the registration page and all the pages by deleting an extraneous “:443” that was inserted in the URL for some reason. GOOD LUCK ALL!
This news is literally hot off the presses and looks very interesting. The details have not yet been planned (I will update when they are) but a decision has been made to have a marathon in which competitors will run AROUND Mt. Fuji!

Mt. Fuji is by far one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. I can only imagine how inspiring it would be to run a marathon in its shadow.

Two courses are planned, one with a 48 hour limit that will be one lap around the mountain and cover approximately 160km (99.4 miles), and another for about half of the base, or about 70km (43.5 miles).

The marathons are planned for May of 2011, and be called “Ultra Trail Mount Fuji”. Runners will start in Yamanashi Prefecture, Fujikawaguchiko-machi (Fujikawaguchiko Town).

As I said, I’ll try to follow up when details are announced!

  1. Sean, thanks for reminding me. I still can’t find the entry information, but several Japanese runners’ blogs (not the news) are listing the dates as May 20 to May 22, 2011. It also seems they are looking for 1,888 runners for each race, and the entry form will open from January 14th to March 31st. Hopefully I can have some information on how to sign up for the race on the 14th.

The Japanese sites also mention that the course is 80% trail and 20% road.

  2. Hey Brown –
The application will be available on the runnet.jp website from Feb 5th at 10am (Japan time) so I’ll post a link to the application on this page when it goes up! Hopefully there will be one in English, but if not, please feel free to ask me about it.

  3. Hey Sean, the application won’t be up on the site for another hour or so but if there is no English Version, I’ll try and help people out.
