TV Asahi New Year’s Show Forgets the Countdown

This is the extreme of teachers teaching through the end of class bell. On the Terebi Asahi (TV Asahi) tv show, Akira Ikegami, a journalist was speaking during the Manaberu News Show, or the Learning News Show.

(For the record, he’s explaining the difference between stocks and corporate bonds.)

Please watch for yourself… the explanation is below.

The show was having a 6 and a half hour New Year’s Special. Although there is a countdown on the screen, and the tv personalities and celebrities in his “class” seemed to be getting antsy, he just kept teaching as the countdown reached zero before delivering an incredibly understaed Akemashite Omedeto Gozaimasu, or Happy New Year.

This was my first big laugh of the new year! A countdown show sans countdown. How cute is it that no one wanted to interrupt him… or that he wanted to immediately continue!

  1. That was great… saw it myself here. The old guy just didn’t care it was New Year! He was on camera and he was going to explain his bit of economics to Japan.

Am guessing a statement will be released saying it was “regrettable” and then you’ll hear nothing more of it.

  2. I’m betting that some nice inside jokes or some candidates for expression of the year come out of this. This video really made my day. This was the best uncountdown I’ve ever seen.

  3. I’m glad you laughed. I heard the countdown shows in the US were pretty bad this year. I don’t know about other countries, but I wish I had seen this one live.
