Just a brief post about the Golden Week holidays this year…
In general it should look like this:
Wednesday May 29th is a holiday.
Thursday May 30th is a weekday.
Friday May 1st is a weekday.
Saturday May 2nd is a Saturday (meaning some people in Japan work and others don’t although because of Golden Week, I think a lot of people would take this day off anyway)
Sunday May 3rd is Constitution Day (since Sunday is already a holiday, everyone will get Wednesday May 6th off instead).
Monday May 4th is Green Day or Greenery Day.
Tuesday May 5th is Children’s Day.
Wednesday May 6th is a holiday in exchange for Constitution Day falling on a Sunday.
So basically Golden Week 2009 will actually be nearly a week for some people!
If people can take Saturday May 2nd off, they can travel Japan or relax from the 2nd until going back to work on Thursday, May 7th!
