Space Battleship Yamato Takes the Top Film Spot
This bodes very well for people hoping for a wide release of the film outside of Japan. Space Battleship Yamato beat out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 for the top spot this week.
The live-action take on the classic anime stars SMAP member Takuya Kimura and offers some differences from the original Space Battleship Yamato, and uses a bigger budget than most Japanese films. It’s already taken in over 500,000,000 yen, or well over 5 million dollars.
The film is scheduled to open in Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, France, Singapore, and Germany, and there are currently offers from distributors in the United States (according to Yahoo! Japan News releases).
Reports also show strong, positive reviews with over 80% of people have seen it saying they would recommend it to a friend.
