Hayao Miyazaki is Not Planning a Sequel to Porco Rosso

I recently read an article online that reported the possibility of a sequel being made for Porco Rosso (Kurenai no Buta), one of Hayao Miyazaki’s most touching and uncharacteristic films.

As a huge fan of Studio Ghibli, I would really enjoy seeing this. We may however be treated to something even more interesting.

In an interview in the September issue of the movie magazine “Cut”, Miyazaki said that he would like to have continued the story of Porco Rosso, but does not think it will happen. He is instead looking at another new film with a young girl as the main character. Miyazaki and the magazine point out that many film and entertainment sites in the U.S. had incorrectly interpreted comments he had made about wishing that he could have continued the series.

Contributors to online bulletin boards have reacted to the story with comments about Miyazaki’s possible Lolita Complex, in addition to a majority of the comments asking him to please continue the story.

It would be nice if one of Hayao Miyazaki’s students decides to try and continue the Porco Rosso adventures, but it seems unlikely.
