Japan considers its inconsistent political correctness when two young girls do one of those Akihabara type idol dances in a park in Hiroshima were forced to apologize. People complained in comments on their Nikoniko Doga page as well as on the source You Tube page. Although it’s true that you can see their panties on a couple of turns in the dance, it’s no different from a cheerleading routine. At the end they put up some pictures of their vacation in Hiroshima and pics of Miyajima.
People complained because the Genbaku Dome (the Atomic Bomb Dome) can be seen in the background… but if you watch the video you can see that they’re in a park some distance away.
Keep in mind this is a country in which any school or public dance recital will feature kids dancing in blackface or with afro wigs on. Remember the news of outcries against the showing of an atomic explosion at the beginning of the new Indian Jones movie? Balance that with a government that regularly visits the temple (Yasukuni Shrine) in which convicted WWII war criminals are honored and then ignores the protests of its neighbors (Korea, North Korea, China), not to mention the depiction of WWII era Okinawa in textbooks and protests by its own citizens.
I believe that the Genbaku Dome is an important place (World Heritage Site), but I don’t think these girls did anything disrespectful.
Here’s the video, feel free not to watch if you will be shocked… it’s actually pretty tame and ends with a series of very college-girl like vacation photos of Hiroshima.
