Strange Video From Fukushima Nuclear Plant Live Camera

I’m going to embed the video right here so you can watch and try to figure out what’s going on here…

Looks like something out of a science fiction movie. The person in the video seems to be a worker at the plant, based on his official clothing, but I’m not sure why he is pointing directly at the live camera or what he’s saying. Some of the commenters suggested that he might be doing a camera check and talking to someone who can see him, others opined that he might be a worker at the plant who’s gone a little crazy.

Also, here is a 15 minute, slightly less sped up version of the video (as suggested by Dave from Big in Japan for your scarification or analysis…

I would like to believe the camera test idea as well, but when he comes up close to the camera near the end and points in a way that covers his face while still talking… that’s a little scary.

Any ideas what could be going on here?

  1. OK, that’s a little weird. Looking at the timestamps he spends almost 20 minutes continually pointing and reading off the camera, then goes away for 2 minutes before coming back for the close-up for a minute.

  2. Yeah, it’s sped up in the video, but the amount of time he spends pointing and talking… the beginning looks a little like what the JR train drivers do when they are making note of landmarks on their routes, but from then on it’s scary.

I am too much a fan of horror and science fiction to let my imagination go too far on this.

  3. Updated with the 15 minute version which is kind of the Fuku-Ichi equivalent to the video in Ring. (There I go with the mind running away with the horror.)

A part of me just wants to think that Dustin Hoffman is in that suit reprising his role in Outbreak… because really, who’s afraid of Dustin Hoffman?
