Places in Japan with the Top Ten Longest Life Expectancy

The longest life expectancy in Japan belongs to the women in Okinawa Prefecture’s “Kitanaka Gusuku” A village which has about 16,269 people. The life expectancy is 89.3 years.

The shortest life expectancy belongs to men in Osaka Prefecture’s, Osaka City. Specifically, in Nishinari Ward! These guys only get to enjoy life until they are 73.1 years old.

The top 10 in life expectancy for women:

  1. Okinawa Prefecture, Kitanakagusuku Village – 89.3 years
  2. Hyogo Prefecture, Kawabe District, Inagawa – 88.7 years
  3. Nagano Prefecture, Shimoina District, Takamori – 88.5
  4. Okinawa Prefecture, Tomigusuku City – 88.5
  5. Okinawa Prefecture, Nanjo City – 88.3
  6. Nagano Prefecture, Kamiina District, Miyada Village – 88.2
  7. Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, Aoba Ward – 88.0
  8. Hokkaido, Iburi, Usu District, Sobetsu – 88.0
  9. Okinawa Prefecture, Nakagami District, Chatan – 87.8

  4. Tokyo, Kokubunji City – 81.4
  5. Tokyo, Nerima Ward – 81.2
  6. Nagano Prefecture, Kamiina District, Minowa – 81.1
  7. Nagano Prefecture, Kamitakai District, Obuse – 81.0 (note: this is where the famous Japanese painter Hokusai lived when he was old. There is a Hokusai museum in the town.)
