Saturday Night Live Japan Set To Air Beginning July 4th 2011

If you are a fan of Saturday Night Live, the iconic, long-running skit and stand-up comedy show broadcast live from New York with the opening catch phrase… “Live From New York – It’s Saturday Night!”…

Then get ready to hear “Live From Tokyo – It’s Saturday Night!”

Japanese veteran comedians Akashiya Sanma and Koji Imada will be leading the cast of regulars on the new Japanese version of Saturday Night Live.

The first show will feature musical guest Ken Hirai, and host Takashi Okamura (of the pair Ninety-Nine, known for his work on Mecha Mecha Ike).

The rest of the regular cast will be a number of “wakate” or young comedic talent – the groups Peace, Monster Engine, Hara-ichi, Heisei Nobushikobushi, fresh face idol Natsuna, Mai Oshima, and Naomi Watanabe who is well known for her Beyonce impressions.

The Japanese version of Saturday Night Live will also be shown live starting at 11:10 p.m. Unlike the American show it will be performed on a monthly basis. The show will officially be known as “Saturday Night Live JPN” and hopes to be as big a success and as large a stage for famous hosts, bands, and special guests as its American counterpart.
