This year there are only two non-Japanese performances scheduled. One is by the Korean five-man group called TVXQ, known in Japan as Tohoshinki, and American enka performer Jerome White, known in Japan as Jero.
I wrote about foreigners on the Red and White Song Battle in the past. People are always vocal about the “selected” performers.
To tell the truth, I have stopped watching the show ever since some of the other networks have actually started putting an effort into their New Year’s Eve shows. In the past, it was really the only thing worth watching, but now it’s just another music show. The only performance that ever went viral and was talked about was done by DJ Ozma, and he’s since been banned.
