Japanese Comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto from Downtown Marries

Forty-five year old Hitoshi Matsumoto from the Japanese comedic duo “Downtown” has gotten married. The new bride is not in the entertainment industry. Not much has been reported about her except that she is currently pregnant.

Many people in the entertainment industry had Matsumoto pegged as a lifelong bachelor, however in a press conference he announced that he was married and asked the media to respect his new bride’s privacy.

Matsumoto’s known for not being too good at sports, so here’s a video of him from his television show “Lincoln” throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game on his birthday two years ago… and wasting no time making a mockery of the situation. Note, this is a real professional baseball game between the Yokohama Baystars and the Hanshin Tigers in the Japanese major league with the stands full of over 30,000 fans.

Most of the what he does out there was requested by other members of the Lincoln cast, some of them are imitations of other comedians.

  1. These shotgun marriages are so common in Japan. Are we thinking it will last 2-3 years before they divorce, or am I just being too sceptical on a Sunday night?

  2. I think the marriages between stars and everyday people have a much better chance of making it. This reminds me of the David Letterman marriage in the US… longtime bachelor comedian, children, wife not in the limelight.

I’m looking forward to seeing how he and Hama-chan work this into their various tv shows.

I think the young starlet mother trends are scary. I don’t report on them here, but there are a lot of shotgun marriages involving young singers or idols who are often caught on camera frolicking at all hours sans children.

I hope it works out because he’s a comic genius and seems like a nice guy.
