Hilarious Video of Japanese Guy Playing FPS Video Game Through Earthquake

People who have seen this video on bulletin boards or the internet have talked about how it gave them something to laugh at and enjoy in these stressful times. The guy in the video had me laughing my head off with these sincere but wacky lines.

The video is of from a Japanese guy who was recording himself playing a first person shooter video game when the Japan earthquake hit.

It starts out with him mentioning that the room is shaking, then around 17 seconds in, he realizes it’s a big earthquake.

Approaching 30 seconds he sounds nervous about how big the earthquake is, but still continues playing.

After 35 seconds he’s shouting about the earthquake, but still playing.

At 46 seconds – lunatic laughter.

At 55 seconds he makes a comment about how he can’t stop playing despite the huge earthquake happening.

He finally pauses the game around the 1:19 mark because it looked like his computer was going to fall over.

You can hear the whole house shaking in the background.

By 1:35 he’s playing again.

At about 1:53 he says the tremors are starting to weaken.

At 2:08 he decides to open a window.

At 2:20 he laughingly says that his mother has gone outside.

Still playing.

At 2:40 he chuckles and observes that EVERYONE is outside.

At 2:58 he mentions that God hasn’t given up on him yet…

At 3:06 he says that it was probably bigger in Tokyo. (*I’m not sure where the original creator of the video is located.)

Here’s the video below. I guess it might be good for me to learn how to do subtitles on YouTube videos to help people who have trouble understanding things like this.

I hope however, that the wackiness of this will make people smile regardless of the language.

  1. At the time, he obviously had no idea about was going on in Tohoku. This speaks more to the generation of kids who can’t put down the game to save their own lives. Also, a little funny that his mother just left him there and went outside with the rest of the people in the neighborhood.

  2. Mr. S – I posted this video because people in various areas of Japan were commenting that it gave them strength and a break from the stress of all that’s going on. If you’ve seen my twitter feed you know that I am as concerned as anyone and trying to get information out in English. Neither this video nor my post makes light of the situation at all.

For what it’s worth, I appreciate your comments and your most recent blog post on the situation.
